I can boast ancient family history in both England and Scotland. On my father’s side, we are cousins to the St. Aubyn family. Three years ago, my husband and I had tea with James St. Aubyn and his lovely wife, Mary, at St. Michael’s Mount and discussed family history. On my mother’s side, we are closely related to the Way family of Dorset, who married into the Drake family (as in Sir Francis). We are also direct descendents of George Wishart, who was a leader in the Scottish reformation and burned at the stake as a heretic my Cardinal Beaton, religious adviser to the then-child queen, Mary of Scots. So going back to those two countries is a bit like old home week for me.
